Port of Barahona was rebuilt in the 1950s by the United States. The Harbor has three terminals, which are called Terminal Consorcio Azucarero Central and Terminal EGE HAINA in one side. Muelle de Barahona (Barahona Harbor) and muelle del Central Azucarero (Sugar Mill Central Harbor).
This port is not very active; in 2008 it received only 50 boats with different kind of activities.
The port handles individual cargo operations, exporting minerals and oils.

Distance: Barahona to Santo Domingo 201 km.
Description: One finger pier for loading bulk rocks, salt and limestone, and one berth at the sugar mill

Anchorage: Deep-water anchorage available just outside port entrance. The pilot will indicate the best place on request

Storage: None at Berths 1 and 2.
Open storage: Up to 20,000 tons of rock gypsum.
Water: There is a pipeline available alongside, but due to low pressure a portable pump is required. Alternatively, fresh water can be supplied by tank truck.

Ship repair: Some shore facilities for minor repairs are available. Further repair shops available in Santo Domingo.
Airport: Las Americas Int’l Airport (Santo Domingo) is 150 km. from the port.
